Spoiled little girl

Up until the age of 8 I was an only child. I was also a very spoiled child. Despite the fact that my parents did not have much money, I was granted nearly everything I asked for. Of course there were a few things I recall not being granted. They were often overly priced toys that we just couldn't afford. My family somehow always found a way to compromise with me. If you ever meet my Grandfather ask him to tell you the infamous "cowboy hat story."

Spoiled little girls tend to evolve into spoiled adult women. I am the prime example of that. I like brand name things, what can I say. I do carry a Coach handbag. I love shopping at Nordstrom. And I rarely drink anything other that Starbucks coffee.

Of course all that changes when you adopt. All of your money is magically vacuumed right out of your pockets. You are given a choice. Curb your spending or get creative. I have elected a happy medium between the two.

Discount brand names. This comes in the form of places like the outlet mall and Costco.

There is one other thing that I had "given up." I had not bought new contacts is about a year. I haven't had new glasses in about 4. Sure, we have insurance. Our eye insurance covers a yearly exam and contacts every year and glasses every 2 years. The problem is that they won't cover contacts and glasses in the same year. Contact lens prescriptions are only good for one year. So rather than get new glasses I always elect for the less expensive contacts.

However, my glasses have gotten so bad that I can't drive at night when it rains. I live in Washington. I rains a lot here. D said that we were going to have eye appointments and that I was getting new glasses. This was part of our Friday morning.

We head off to our local Costco for eye exams. Why Costco? They take our insurance. I am here to tell you that insurance is a fabulous thing! Not only were our eye exams only $40, but we found out that they cover frames up to $130!!! This meant I could pick any frame they had available and insurance would pay for it.

Costco may not carry designer clothing, but they DO carry designer glasses frames. Dolce & Gabana, Tommy Hillfiger, and none other than Burberry!!! That one little word to a woman who has been unable to purchase something so extravagant in a very long time was like the heavens opened up and angels sang. So yes... I selected a very cute and very trendy set of Burberry frames. I am just way too excited about all of this.

I am soooo spoiled.

LOVE Burberry. I have a scarf and a knockoff purse (wish I had the real thing). I, too, carry a Coach handbag. Ohhh, that is all coming to an end with my job change, LOL. I will be looking at Costco as well. Oh, and you forgot one great place for designer things...E-BAY!

ah yes, Ebay. I have bookmarked a few things there, but much of what is for sale is used stuff. I have this weird fear of used items I have never seen. I don't mind hand me downs, but as long as I know where the items came from. It is just one of my very weird quirks.

My designer shopping sprees ended when I quit my greenhouse job. All my nice jeans are getting all worn out and I can't afford new ones at full price. It sucks.

I am SOOOOO with you, Elle, girl. The last time I bought a designer purse was to replace two Louis Vuittons that magically never made it off the moving truck when we got to Massachusetts. I watched them load them, but not unload. So our homeowners insurance policy covered only to a certain point. I could only buy one as a replacement. It took me a month to pick it out. :)

Next time will be way after the baby comes home.

I am, however, seriously addicted to Costco.

Oh sweetie, as one Nordstrom girl to another.....I hate to break it to you, but if you think adoption is expensive, wait until you are raising them. ;-) Until I adopted, I hadn't been in a Target, Costco, Walmart, Big Lots, you name it in years, if ever. sigh. The other day I walked into Nordstrom.....it was so depressing. I didn't even know where to go, I felt very mommy-ish and out of place. Everyone was clean and beautiful. ugh. Serena

What??!! You're drinking coffee again? That's a scary concept! What ever happened to swearing off it it (like you were told to do in college)? Or is that part of the "I hate doctor visits" thing? Enjoy your new glasses! I got some about two years ago, and I still love them! No, I couldn't tell you the brand, and since Eric's insurance doesn't cover vision, they aren't brand name. Sigh. I miss vision insurance.

I've never been a name-brand person myself. I just don't care about it. But vision insurance... now that makes me really jealous. Oh to have vision insurance. Coach and Tommy Hilfiger I can live without, but the though of vision insurance makes me drool!

Yes Jake... I made a compromise on my caffine addiction. I now drink one cup of regluar coffee with breakfast. Everything else is decaf. Decaf coffee, non caffinated soda. I feel like a criminal when I sneak a Coke.

I must say I miss vision insurance as well. Seems every other year I have a job and vision insurance. I have 3 pairs of fancy name brand glasses, kate spade, calvin, donna karan and then a 4th pair of pink rimless. I love names but since I have started actually paying attention to money I haven't bought anything. I do however feel like I would rather have 1 pair of expensive jeans then 3 of regular ones, or a Kate spade, gucci, or prada bag.

Once the baby comes (um in 2020? haha) that will end.

I can't wait to see the picture of the new glasses!

I've never had designer clothes, BUT...from a former full-price Ann Taylor girl to a very frequent Target and sale rack shopper, I feel you. Hooray for Costco, huh? Enjoy those new glasses!
